Despite What You’ve Been Told is a group show featuring a diverse group of bay area artist responding to the idea OK as it relates to the working artist.
The state of the working artist in the Bay Area is an ever changing and challenged position, be it not okay, okay, or better than okay. Despite What You’ve Been Told is a group show that ask artists to respond to the subjective nature of making art and the ever present question of okay.
For our purpose okay is both a baseline for where we are, what we’ll be, and what is not acceptably okay to the emerging artist class. The task is to explore how okay changes in relation to singular expressive acts becoming a way of life that despite what you’ve been told has as many definitions as okay.
The opening reception for Despite What You’ve Been Told will run late into the evening on May 15th to accommodate a busy art week in the bay area.
